FCKeditor and AVG 8.0

The other day, I noticed that the pages in my CMS containing FCKeditor elements were suddenly taking a LONG time to load... like, 20-30 seconds!  This became maddenly frustrating, and searching the forums at FCKeditor.net was not giving me an answer. 

It occured to me that I should try the demo editor on the FCK site, to see if I had the same problem -- and I did!  This led me to believe it wasn't FCKeditor, but something on my machine. So, I sat here this morning trying to think of anything I had changed or updated recently...

The answer:  AVG Anti Virus!  (I had just updated to version 8.0 a couple days ago.)  They have implemented some kind of 'link checker' crap into it, and it was checking each graphic/script/link inside a FCKeditor element!  So, for those of you with AVG 8.x that are having issues with a suddenly slow loading FCKeditor -- just disable the link-checker in AVG and/or the plug-in it installed into your (Firefox/IE) browser.  I'll be writing to AVG today to tell them about this... I'm especially not happy about the installation of browser plug-ins without telling me!

That's a great tip, it's been driving me crazy. A few days ago I saw the fckeditor load on someone else's computer, and it was a lot faster than on mine. Couldn't figure out what it was until now. Thank you thank you!

Unfortunately, there has been no response from them yet. Hopefully they at least got the message, though. (I've not had any other problems with AVG since then, at least.)
